Outreach Ministries

As we reach out to our community, we embrace the love of God in all people.  We strive to serve others in the name of Jesus.

Bread For the World

The opportunity to participate in Bread for the World’s annual Offering of Letters will take place after each worship service on the weekend of May 1 and 2.  Bread for the World is a bipartisan collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision-makers to end hunger at home and abroad.

This year a significant group of tax cuts and credits will expire and our legislators must decide which ones to renew.  The Earned Income Tax Credit alone lifts more than five million Americans (2.6 million children) above the poverty line.  Bread for the World letters to our Congressional leaders asks for continuation and strengthening of Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.  Please consider taking time to write a letter as one of your gifts toward ending hunger in our country

Lord’s Pantry

Approximately 55 families, 120 people including 50 children under the age of 18, come to our church the 4th Thursday of each month to receive food.  Please help by donating cereal this month.  Place it in the marked bins throughout the church.  Every donation helps. Thank you for helping to feed the hungry.  For further information, please contact Susan Eyrolles

New Hope Soup Kitchen

Last month on a very cold Jan. 10, many of you provided food for the hungry that was served at the New Hope Soup Kitchen on the North Side of Pittsburgh.  Every donation of food is valuable.  No food is wasted.  Thank you for being so generous.  The people were able to have more than one serving.  There was enough food that the Kitchen was able to be open the following Tuesday and Thursday.

Our next Soup Kitchn date is March 14.  The Confirmation class will serve the food that day.  Please bring casseroles, milk or juice to Asbury Hall kitchen by noon.  Thank you so much.

Additional Soup Kitchen dates for 2010 are:  May 23, August 15 and Oct. 3.  For further information, please contact Sherrill Shepler.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of the South Hills is an interdenominational program that links homeless families to local congregations that offer shelter, meals and transportation.  Our church will once again welcome our guests the week of April 4 – 11.  Thank you for hosting the families this past year as they take the steps necessary to gain self-sufficiency.

Additional hosting dates for 2010 are:  April 4-11, June 13 – 20, August 22-29, and  October 31 – Nov. 7.  Please contact Amy at the church if you would like to help.

College Boxes

What a joy for a college student to receive a gift box in the mail from his or her church!

Parents, please call the church office by March 1 with your college student’s college address so that we may send him or her a snack package.  The student must be a Baldwin Community UMC member or one parent must be a member.  The congregation is invited to donate snacks (pretzels, snack crackers, candy bars, non-liquid microwaveable foods, etc.) that will be used to fill the boxes.  Please place them in the appropriate bins February 14 through March 7.

Friends in Deed
Friends in Deed is open to all members of Baldwin Community Methodist Church who have lost a loved one.  The group emphasizes the uplifting and pleasant memories of their loved ones.  The time together is not a grief counseling session but rather a time of happy memories.  They meet the second Friday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the church Parlor.

Please join with us or contact Joann Wilson for further information.
